Confession by YQ (request for anonymity)

I am writing from Malaysia. This story is about my father's and grandma's encounter. This happened last year in 2019.

My father has a habit of playing music loudly in his room every night on his phone and would usually fall asleep and not turn the music off until the next morning. His room was located at the very end of the terrace house which was next to the toilet and shower room and at the very end, there would be a door leading to the back alleyway. His room has a window that would look into the back alleyway which was usually dark and creepy at night.

Everything was fine until one late night, as my grandmother was cleaning up in the kitchen late at night, she caught a glimpse of a dark shadow in the small hallway just outside my father's room. My grandma is a very religious woman but she just chose to brush it away thinking it was just her eyes playing tricks on her.

However, the next morning, she found a large footprint that looked muddy just right in front of the backdoor that leads to the alleyway. She found it rather odd as there was no way my grandfather or father could have stepped outside without shoes or even without cleaning the footprint off. The oddest part of it was it was only a print of the right foot. And the footprint was oddly larger than any human-size feet. and the muddy footprint looked fresh. However, she asked both my grandfather and father if anyone had stepped outside last night or could've left a footprint on the ground and both of them deny it. That is when she realizes something is wrong.

That same night, she went to the temple and seek help from Tua Pek Kong, and she was told that my father's habit of playing music loudly every night had attracted some wandering spirits from the back alleyway into the house. He advised my grandmother to stop playing music at night and burn some incense paper the next morning to seek forgiveness. After that incident, my father stopped playing music at night and bought himself a good set of headphones and everything else went back to normal. The moral of the story is to not play music loudly at night unless you want to attract some uninvited guests that might have the same taste in music as you.
