Enjoy listening to folktales passed down through the generations? What are some of the old customs we still practice today that are steeped in superstitions or paranormal lore?

This tour was specially designed for The Peranakan Museum in conjunction with the Singapore Heritage Festival 2024.

Beneath the veneer of the high rise buildings and beautiful landscapes of modern Singapore belies the darker side of our heritage that is passed down through the generations only through oral traditions. Stories that the younger, TikTok savvy generation, and tourists, are not privy to; but all will be revealed on this walking tour.

The tour begins from The Peranakan Museum at Armenian Street, goes across the historic Fort Canning Hill and ends conveniently opposite the Downtown MRT station where the old National Theatre used to stand. Participants will be regaled with tales of ghostly encounters from eye witness accounts and the lore behind these hauntings that comprises of Singapore's diverse ethnic customs and beliefs.

Basic information - Walking tour

1. This is a rain-or-shine event. We will proceed in the event of light rain. However, if the weather is deemed too dangerous to proceed, the tour will be rescheduled for another day. A refund will be provided if you are unable to make the new date. 
2. Participants must be of moderate fitness - able to walk for 2 hours without rest. Moderate slope and some flights of stairs.
3. The Hosts will do their best to take care of all participants and ensure a fun and safe tour, however there may be situations that are considered acts of nature that was not pre-empted. Participants agree to not hold Supernatural Confessions and the Hosts responsible for any unforeseen mishaps.
4. This is a walking tour hosted by licensed tour guide who would regal you with historical facts weaved into a narrative and peppered with folktales.
5. Content is mixed of local history and folklore. The historical facts are true, but the ghost stories are not verifiable. They are passed down through oral traditions.

Cost & Payment Matters

Cost of tour is SGD 48.00 per participant, and can be paid through PayLah or PayNow to this number, +65 9459 4931 (Eugene Tay).

Minimum pax required to commence the tour is 8 pax. If the date you have chosen is cancelled by us, we will offer you an alternative date; if no alternative dates are available, we will give you a full refund.

What to Prepare for the Tour

Meet Location: Peranakan Museum (39 Armenian St, Singapore 179941)

End Location: Fort Canning MRT (170 River Valley Rd, Singapore 179038)

Safety
Please sound out if you have:

• existing condition(s).
• feeling unwell.
• notice a fellow attendee feeling unwell.

Water Resource

• The entire duration of the walk is about 2 hours.
• Please hydrate sufficiently.
• There is no pitstop during the tour.

Pace

• The pace is normal walking speed (4km/hour).
• We will have about 10 checkpoints throughout the tour where we will stop to tell stories.
• The terrain is flat ground mostly, with the exception of an uphill climb up two slopes and two flights of stairs to the top of Fort Canning; and what goes up must come down.

Comfort

• You do not need specific hiking shoes for this walk. Wear your comfortable walking shoes or slippers.
• It’s a rain or shine event. Bring your umbrella if you don’t fancy being drenched.
• If mosquitoes ain’t your thing, bring some insect repellent.
• Even though the place we are walking to have a reputation for being haunted, I'm happy to announce that there hasn't been any reports of possession or direct haunting when there's a large group of people.

Parking

• If you are driving, consider parking at the public carpark beside Peranakan Museum.
• Alternatively, you can park UE Square or the area around it. It would be near where we end our walk.
• For those who park at Peranakan Museum public carpark, you can take bus number 32 from a nearby bus stop opposite Clark Quay back to Peranakan Museum (stop at Armenian Church bus stop). 

Public Transport

• You should have absolutely no trouble getting a cab from this area.
• Many buses ply these routes to and from the location. Nearest MRT to Peranakan Museum are Bencoolen, Bras Basar and City Hall MRT.

Videography

• Photography is great! Click away as much as you like and share them on social media.
• However, we ask that you do not video the tour in its entirety.
