Confession by Thomas Wang
Back in 2014, my wife and I went to Thailand for the first time for a holiday. We booked a hotel with a great landscape view of Bangkok. We did the usual Asian pantang thing like knocking on the door three times and putting our suitcase in before going in. Everything went smoothly during the day. We went to shop for clothes, had some drinks and headed back to the hotel by nightfall. That's when weird things happened. The door handle started rattling as if someone was trying to get in. My first thought was that maybe a prostitute was going from door to door offering her services, but I recalled that all guests were required to tap their keycard in the elevator before accessing the floors. I stayed on the 70+ floor so it was not likely someone would climb the stairs up either. This went on the whole night but my wife and I chose to ignore whoever or whatever was outside. The next day, we hired a tour guide to bring us around Bangkok. When I related the experience to him, he seemed concerned enough to suggest if we were okay for him to bring us to a temple for blessings. I thought, “why not?” since we were already in Thailand, and it’s a land of many temples. At the temple, we were given an amulet to hang in our room for protection. My first thought was, “really can meh?” but that night and the remaining five nights, everything was quiet. There were no disturbances. When I asked my guide about the history of the hotel, he kept quiet. Maybe the locals might know of the other hauntings taking place there. Confession by Anon
True encounter by my 15 yr old son. It happened in Thailand, Ubon Ratchathani province. He was living with his mum in a newly built house for the first time. The first two nights were alright, but something strange happened on the third. My son called me at midnight while I was away at work in Singapore. "Pa, I cannot sleep... there are strange noises outside the house, behind the walls only.... I am scared," he said. My son was sharing the room with his grandpa but couldn't seem to wake him up, so he called me as he knew I would be available at this hour. I asked what kind of noise that was. "Some cow mooing in a very deep tone... but it doesn't sound like an animal entirely.. It sounded more like a human..." He described that the voice was so distinct that it seemed as if it was in the room. I tried my best to console him that it was just a cow making weird noises at night and probably sounded exceptionally loud because nightfall in rural areas could be extremely quiet. Also, the cows were likely from the farms around the area. "BUT it is not a cow! I am sure! It sounded more like an old man mimicking....!" I had some weird thoughts, to be honest but I didn’t know what else to say except to promise my son that I would be on the phone till he slept. I shared a YouTube link to a buddhist chant hoping it would help to calm him and chase away whatever was haunting him. He slept not long after playing the clip in the background. I related the incident to his mum and this was what she said. "Yes.. I know what happened, I didn’t hear it the first few nights. It is only on the fourth night I heard it. And I know it is from the kitchen!" Thinking it could be an intruder, she armed herself with a kitchen knife but she found she was alone in the kitchen. She recited some prayers and both the feeling and the noise disappeared. "It happened just weeks before the house was built, an old man brought his buffalo to the grass field, the buffalo unintentionally impaled the old man and killed him, right where the house was now built." All these made sense now. She engaged monks to do prayers and also invited the deceased family members to the ritual. There are no further occurrences. The cows are still there.. but not the 'cowman'. Confession by Lennon
I am working in Bang Na, Thailand. To avoid the traffic jam on my way home, I took a shortcut through a kampung. It was about 7pm. In Thailand, by this time, the sky would already be very dark. I was driving very slowly because the roads were narrow. Midway through my journey, I saw this lady from afar wearing a Thai period costume. The type with baggy shorts to the knee and pointed head pieces (similar to those dancers at Erawan shrine). I was like, “What the f**k? Still got people dressed like that? Costume party is it?” As my car passed the lady, I looked at her face. To my horror her face was white - not pale, but white - eyes were all black with no whites, mouth was bloody, red and big, like the Joker in 'Batman'. I continued driving. When I took a glance at my rearview mirror, I was surprised to see her reflection. I had the idea that ghosts do not have a reflection. Anyway I bought a rosary and hung it in my car. Till today, I am still using this route but did not have another encounter with that… that thing ever since. Confession by Anon
I want to share an experience that I encountered in my younger days in which I was lucky to have been unharmed. This happened around 2001, on my very first trip to Bangkok. We checked into the hotel in the afternoon - Bangkok F*** Hotel. My room was located on one of the higher floors for 3 pax which was like a pent house or premium room. The room was right at the corner near the staircase. I cannot remember if we knocked the room door to politely inform “them” - the spirits - that we were staying for a few nights. The floor we were on was mostly empty with many rooms unoccupied and eerily quiet. While unpacking our luggage, I heard noises outside our room which sounded like kids playing; laughing, opening and closing the doors repeatedly, which annoyed the hell out of me. I was cursing and swearing under my breath. When I opened the door ready to give the kids a good scolding, I saw no one. The whole level was empty and quiet just as before. I went back to unpacking and the noises started again. I rushed to the door to check but again, it was empty and quiet. Shortly after, we headed out of the hotel. Nothing much else happened for the remainder of our stay except that one of my friends developed a fever that went on for the next couple of days which he self-medicated. He did mention that he didn’t sleep well throughout and felt weird which I believe was related to those “things”. The reason I was spared was probably because I had a hot temper or more 杀气 (Sha JI). Later on, I checked on the internet and found out that this hotel was rumoured to be haunted with quite a number of supernatural news and stories. Some years back in the 80s, a fire accident had resulted in deaths. I gave my friend a good scolding for not checking and getting us such a “dirty hotel’. However, I feel lucky to be unharmed throughout !🙏🏻😅 Confession by Anon
My boyfriend and I recently went for a three day two night trip to Bangkok. We stayed at a nice five star hotel at a very famous location which was connected to a huge conference place. We arrived at about 9+pm. After a quick dinner, we went back to the hotel, showered and passed out before midnight. I’m a light sleeper, especially if I’m sleeping at a new or foreign place. I guess it's because I'm not used to the environment, tossing and turning a lot. My boyfriend was nicely snoring away. Then, at about 3.28am, I heard the shower running and a strong scent of lavender scented shower gel. I am sure of the exact timing because I wear an Apple Watch to sleep and instinctively look at the time everytime I wake up, usually to see how much time I have left tired before the alarm goes off. I was wide awake at this point but dared not get up to check. I didn’t wake my boyfriend who must be exhausted from driving for 5 hours. Ten minutes later the shower turned off by itself and eventually I drifted off to sleep. Next morning I told my boyfriend what I had experienced and he brushed it off saying it was probably the sound of someone showering in the next hotel room. I thought about it and decided it was best to just go with that explanation. He also told me to wake him up if it happens again tonight. That night, we slept a bit later, at around 1am. I was dead tired from the lack of sleep the night before so I had no problem dozing off. My boyfriend too. Then… At exactly 3.28am it happened again: The sound of the shower running accompanied by the smell of shower gel. This time I woke my boyfriend up and he heard it too. But he told me to just ignore it and go back to sleep 😒 Fine. It took me a while to get back to sleep though whereas my boyfriend was back to snoring in no time. Suddenly, my boyfriend started grunting and gesturing like he was trying to push something off of him. I sat up, turned on the bedside lamp and shook him to wake him up. A few seconds later, he woke up and sprang right out of bed. His face was pucat (pale; white as a sheet). When he calmed down, regaining his composure, he sat down on the bed and told me he felt a cold pair of hands strangling him, trying to choke him. And right at that moment as he said that, the smell of lavender (shower gel) filled the entire room. Walao! We turned on all the lights including those in the bathroom. He stayed up all night while I slept. When I woke up at about 7am, he then went to sleep till it was time to check out. We skipped breakfast that morning which was a waste because the spread was pretty good. Wasted lah. To be honest, we travel quite a bit, like five to six times a year, for vacays and/or work. We have stayed in various hotels and this was the first time we experienced anything supernatural, and one so aggressive. I don't know what to make of it but hope we don't kena again next time. Damn scary. Confession by Anon
5th April 2023 Just to share a freaking chilling encounter in Bangkok that happened 10 years ago. Back then, I was a relationship manager in a bank. Our branch has this twice a year Team Bonding activity, usually an overseas trip. That year due to our branch budget, our team decided to have our team bonding in Bangkok. As we were in our 20s, we were all really excited about the shopping, massage and havoc drinking sessions. The hotel we chose was The Berkxxxx Hotel Pratunam in the Pratunam area. It was newly built and looked really swanky. Three of my colleagues and I —all girls , were assigned to the last two rooms at the corner while the guys were staying one floor above us. The first two nights were alright; no strange encounters. Probably because we were out the whole day and only got back to the hotel after 1am to catch a few hours of sleep before going out again, early the next day. On the third night, we made plans to check out a new Thai pub around 10.30pm. Since it was raining, we decided to stay in the hotel to wait it out. Two of my colleagues staying in the room next to ours came over to (the corner room) chit chat with us. I was having a headache and decided to rest on the bed instead, I was half asleep but could still hear the girls chit chatting. Suddenly, we heard knocks on our door. The girls stopped chatting and one of them went to see who it was via the peephole, but there was no one there. All of us felt a little spooked. It was a distinct and ominous series of knocks. It wasn’t our imagination. Also, there was a doorbell, if it was hotel staff, they would likely press the doorbell right? Nevertheless the girls continued their chit chat. Less than two minutes later, the knocking started again. This time louder, as if someone was banging on the door. By now I was already fully awake. One by one, my colleagues went to the peephole to check but there was nobody outside our door! Then someone suggested opening the door to look. Maybe it was one of the boys just trying to be funny. I had a very strong sense that something wasn’t right. I stayed in bed while three of my colleagues opened the door, To their horror, they saw an old man standing in front of them. His back was turned to them and he was badly hunched. They couldn’t see his face. Slowly, he glided towards the wall and disappeared into it. The girls screamed and slammed the door shut. When they regained their composure and related the incident to me, they were literally trembling. That night, needless to say, we ended up going to bed early and never joined the male colleagues at the Thai pub. It was our last night in Bangkok and we had to catch the flight back home in the late afternoon. The three girls who saw the old man apparition decided to put that chilling episode behind when we got back to Singapore and went back to their normal lives. However, five days later, the three colleagues started falling sick one by one with the same symptoms - high fever that wouldn’t go down even after medications. They were either suffering from insomnia or night terrors, and this went on for two weeks. One of the girls sought help from a local feng shui master but there was no improvement. Luckily under the recommendation of one of the girl’s uncle, they went to a temple Medium in Batu Pahat in Malaysia. The Medium was able to accurately point out what happened in Bangkok. After some prayers and cleansing the girls recovered. Confession by Keith
The old Police Academy has a lot of ghost stories. Anyone doing NS would have heard of one urban legend or another. I served my NS in the police force. This was in the year 2000. The building was sibei (very) old. Three stories high with communal toilets on each floor. My buddy, X, was sensitive and could actually see ghosts. As early as the first day of in-camp he had his cupboard filled with a Bible, talisman, holy water, etc. I would joke that being his buddy was the safest because if any ghost were to come, he would have an answer to deal with anything. Yet he still got possessed. This was during the second week of our stay. Throughout the first week, X was unable to sleep well. He complained that something was trying to enter his body. I didn’t think anything of it. My first thought was that he was trying to Chao Geng (skive). One night he woke me up and complained he felt very hot and needed to shower. I said, “Bro, it's so late already just go to sleep lah.” X left the bunk on his own. After that I couldn’t get back to sleep and felt a bit like a dick, so I went to the toilet to check on him. In the force, we were always told to go in pairs, look out for each other. There was an unspoken understanding for some that if one person needed to pee at night, the buddy would go with him. So lan lan. I didn’t want to be the asshole. The stall water was running. I could hear voices but couldn't make out the words. They were a bit muffled. For some reason I became wide awake. Alarm bells were going off in my head and this unsettled feeling came suddenly. I crept up to the stall calling his name. For the first time in my life I felt real fear. You know we used to write in composition that “my blood ran cold in my veins?” I felt that. X was standing with his face to the wall so I could only see his back. He was fully clothed and soaking wet. I reached in to turn him towards me and that was when I noticed X features were slightly altered. He spoke to me in another voice… and in Mandarin! My Chinese was not all that good and even conversational Chinese is a stretch. However X, an Indian, was speaking a whole string of chinese to me. I kept on repeating, “Eh fuck lah, stop it. Not funny.” Then X stopped talking and smiled. His eyes showed only the whites. Through the smile, I heard, what I believe was X voice calling from somewhere inside this body - Help. Fuck. I left X there and bolted. I woke the whole squad up. When we got to the toilet, X was in a squatting position, crying in a girly sobbing way. The Malays in the squad recited their verses. Others just stared blankly. Back then phones got no cameras, otherwise this one confirm would go viral. Luckily I had the cow sense to go to his locker to grab his religious items. As buddies, we both knew where each other hid our keys to our cupboard. I hung the crucifix around his neck, placed the Bible against his chest, and doused him with the bottle of holy water. It seemed to work because X calmed down and went into a deep sleep. We carried him back to his bed and he slept throughout. At some point I was wondering if he would wake up. I don’t know if any of us managed to sleep that night but nobody wanted to talk about it. We just went back to our respective beds and we waited for the first row call which was going to happen in a matter of hours anyway. That morning, thankfully X woke up. He woke with a high fever so he was sent off to the medical centre and got warded for three days. When we finally got back to training the following week, he told me what he had experienced. He said that for many nights already there was a spirit of a woman who came to him for help. He tried to ignore her but she was very persistent. He finally relented and asked her what she needed, she said that she needed a place to rest. So X replied, "then go rest lah". That was when the spirit managed to enter his body through his mouth and nose as if he had inhaled her. Everything after that was a blank. He just knew he felt very hot and needed to douse himself in water. But things were on autopilot and the memories were very fuzzy. Apparently after that incident, X topped up his cupboard with more religious paraphernalia. Though from time to time he would say he could see spirits approaching, there were no other major incidents like the one I witnessed right before my eyes. New Police Academy in Chua Chu Kang. The story is that the cupboard is not to be closed. If you close the cupboard doors, the cupboard will shake at night. There's an old coin welded to the drawer. Not pasted, not left behind but welded. Yeah. So that's why you can't really close the cupboard. The cupboard doesn't close properly a. We tried a few times. When the cupboard is closed, at night it will shake, with banging sounds coming from the inside. If I leave it open, it’s fine.
[Eugene] Could it be a rat or something? No rat, but a giant millipede. But I don't’ think the millipede can bang on the cupboard. - This is a famous story making its round as an urban legend. Many boys serving national service would have heard it, but we finally found the person who first experienced it when serving in the Police Academy, intake 115. This is his confession. - Eugene Tay Late one night after a hard day of physical training (PT) exercises and drill training, I was damn shagged and knocked out early. Midway through my sleep I was awakened with someone gently nudging me. “Bro, can follow me to the toilet?” In my sleepy stupor and barely able to see, I said ok and climbed off the top bunk to follow my buddy to the toilet. He walked in front of me and I just followed, weary eyed, still half asleep - you know that state where everything is a blur and you can’t really focus or see properly. We were at Bravo Company (coy), which was the building just between the mass canteen and Alpha coy (or OCT barracks), in front of the basketball courts. Behind the coy, where we hung all of our laundry, was a forest with a cluster of banana trees. The toilet is on a half level down, between first and second floor. I followed him and reached the toilet. He went into the cubicle stall to take a shit while I went to the urinal. I didn’t really have to pee, but since I was there, might as well. Now, I’ve always been a bit afraid of camp toilets as I’ve read stories and listened to many horror tales. As far as possible, I avoid looking at the mirror and the ceilings, for fear of spotting something in the reflection or looking down at me. I don’t have the special third eye, but who knows.. better to not see. “Damn shag leh today, the drills and PT was damn tiring”, my buddy said from the stall. “Ya, tomorrow morning will be worse. IPPT coming up so confirm will kena from FI”, I replied, still peeing. “Yeah, but luckily I got lesson in the afternoon so can relax a bit”, my buddy added. He could only be heard since the door was closed. I finished peeing and went to wash my hands. “Eh, faster leh, I wanna sleep!”, I chased. "Wait la, stomachache”, he explained. So I waited, still trying my best to avoid looking at the mirror and the ceiling. My mind was filling fast with ‘what if’ scenarios, and I was getting a little paranoid at what I might “accidentally” see if I’m unluckily. “Quick leh”, I chased again. No reply. He must be concentrating. So, I went to the next stall and climbed on the toilet bowl to peep over the connecting wall. There was no one. Absolutely no one. I climbed back down and went back to the sinks. Trying to keep calm and not reveal that I KNEW no one was in the stall, I said, “Eh, I go back first la, damn shag. I wanna sleep liao.” And began to slowly make my way towards the door. ‘He’ replied. The voice still coming from inside the cubicle, “You sure you really tired and wanna go back? Or you know who I am now?” My skin crawled and goose bumps ran all over my body.... Confession by WQ
I was stationed at Tanglin HQ. Tanglin HQ isn’t anywhere near Tanglin Road but opposite KK Women and Children's Hospital. Back then there was this huge car park behind the station where Halifax road was. Today if you go there, you will see major construction going on. Tanglin station has many stories but since I never actually encountered any myself, I can only regard them as hearsay. One of the urban legends that made its rounds is that there is a pontianak haunting the car park beside the station. The car park was a popular haunt for couples to make out. It’s isolated and quite dark. There’s only the police station, a row of old colonial houses, and the central expressway running past. The story goes that couples who park in that car park for some hanky panky time will be visited by an old lady staring at them from outside the window. Based on their description, it was an old lady with rotten teeth. I think what I encountered inside the station might be the same entity. This one is very interesting. So I was on prowling duty at night around 04:00. A.m. The prowling is hourly and we take turns. We have to actually go up and down the building, and all the checkpoints to teet with our checker device. Level four is the library, one of the spots that… is the most interesting. You will need to walk right to the end by the glass panel which is the entrance into the library, and on the left is a wall. This area is very dimly lit. Many people have reported this place to be quite keras (supernaturally active). The spot to teet was all the way at the end of the corridor. As I was walking back out, suddenly my left side didn't feel so good. After the library is an office with a small glass window and a door. From the corner of my eyes I looked inside the office and saw an old macik (elderly malay lady). I panicked and ran to the lift. The lift came but wouldn’t go down. The door would close, and then open on its own again. I kept pressing on the buttons to close the door and to go to level one but the door just kept opening up. So I closed my eyes and started praying. Now the whole lift started smelling of something sweet. Thankfully, after I was not sure how long, the smell went away and the lift started moving down. After that encounter, I was sick for weeks. |
