Confession by Calvin C. Hi Eugene, I was listening to your podcast the other day and you covered topics of haunted houses,
haunted hotels, and even haunted hospitals. I enjoyed all of them, and I think I have a confession for you that you have never heard before - a haunted car. My wife and I had our second child and we felt that a car would ease a lot of hassle when going out with two young children so I got a second hand Toyota Wish, roomy enough for my family needs. Back before I had my own wheels, we would rent cars on weekends for grocery shopping in JB. The kids love car rides. We would drive to the animal farms and such in Johor too, but for some reason, after I got my car, the kids refused to ride in it. The youngest one, who was about four months at that time, would cry incessantly every time she got into the car. She was inconsolable. It was so bad that we practically didn’t use the car for its intended purpose. There was one time I was driving home after a company’s event and was quite shagged already. I had entered the CTE tunnel. When I was preparing to cut into the second lane to prepare for the exit into the highway, I glanced at my rear view mirror to check for traffic behind me. It was then that I saw a woman in my backseat. I couldn’t make out her face as she was shrouded in the shadows. I took a second glance but the figure was gone. I continued driving, but at this point, I was honestly quite spooked. I kept feeling like I could see a shadow figure sitting in the passenger seat but when I turned to look there was nobody. I told myself it was probably just the lights from the tunnel casting a shadow in the backseat. When I was preparing to turn out towards the 0Outram exit, I had to turn to my left - towards the passenger seat - to check for blindspot, and that’s when I saw her again, less than a meter away from my face, in the passenger seat this time. I couldn’t make out the top half of the face - meaning I can’t see the nose or the eyes or the top part of the head - just the bottom part of her jaw and that didn't seem normal. I swerved and my car mounted the curb and I trashed the right side of my car for quite a distance until I ended up on a grass patch near the traffic light. I leapt out of the car and by the time I found my balls to look inside the car, she was gone. I was spooked out by what I had just seen but right now my concern was how to explain this to my wife. Thankfully my workshop contact was around the area and managed to tow my car back to the workshop. The next day I went to the workshop and the boss was laughing at me. He joked about how I needed to retake my license. I explained what I had encountered and he stopped laughing. He then asked if I wanted to invite a shifu to take a look. He said such things were rare but he has encountered haunted cars before on one or two other occasions in his career. I didn’t see any harm in that, so I agreed to have the shifu come. There was no cost for consultation; only have to pay if actual cleansing work is done. When the shifu came that afternoon, he took one look at the car and asked if I knew the history of it. I said it’s a second-hand car, I had my mechanic check the engine and all, it was fine. In fact, the mileage to cost ratio was pretty good. The shifu did certain shifu-stuff and then when he came back to tell me what he had found out, I knew he wasn’t a con. Ok lah, to be honest, when my mechanic suggested bringing a shifu in, I did think it was a ploy to con me off some more money. The shifu was able to describe the woman exactly as how I had seen her. I didn’t tell the mechanic the gender or how she looked. I only said, I “kua tio gui” - saw a ghost - and swerved my car. According to the conversation that the shifu had with the spirit, the previous owner got into an accident, knocked over a pedestrian, and fled the scene. The pedestrian was killed on the spot, her head was crushed under one of the wheels. Since then the spirit had been attached to this vehicle. Her presence was very strong, indicating that a physical part of her was still somewhere in the vehicle. I asked if he could cleanse it, he said it was possible, but the price he quoted made me think twice about it. Eventually I decided to just sell the car and go back to renting. |
