Confession by Cara Wong On a trip to Hong Kong in 2004 with a girlfriend of mine, we stayed in a pretty international hotel in the Tsim Tsa Tsui district.(starts with the letter "M"). It was our first time in HK so we did a 5D4N trip to explore the country. Everything seemed fairly normal when we arrived and checked in, with the exception that the room was cold. Like REALLY cold. We figured it was because the weather in Hong Kong was 18 deg and dropping, so we probably weren't used to the climate and the room felt colder than usual. (AC was at 21 deg). The layout of the room was such that when you entered, the bathroom is on your right and just a few steps ahead was the "pantry" area (with all the coffee, tea, fridge etc) and it was completely mirrored. It also reflected the bathroom that was opposite it. We had 2 separate twin beds but because one of it was facing the mirrored pantry area (superstitious beliefs lead us to think that sleeping opposite a mirror is not a good idea) we decided to shift the beds a little closer to each other since the room was very big anyway. The problem was the bathroom. During the first few nights of showering, I always felt uneasy. As though there was a pair of eyes just boring into me but i put it down to being in a foreign country so I brushed it off but my showers did become super quick. At nights, the room became cold, unbearably so. It got to the point that after the 1st night, my friend and I decided to join the beds together to keep warm. We tried to request for a room change but the receptionist informed us that they were full. To their credit, they did try to send up people to help with the thermostat but after 2-3 futile attempts, we gave up complaining. My friend also request that we keep the lights on at all times. On our last night in the hotel, my friend said that she could not take the cold anymore and asked if we could have some tea. Since my bed was closest to the pantry area, i got up to fill the flask to boil the water. I was right about to take the teabags when a movement from the mirror distracted me and I looked up. As I mentioned, the pantry is completely mirrored and reflected the bathroom and when i looked up to see what was moving, I was horrified to see a grotesque female head with long hair and what looked like intestines, hovering near the ceiling light of the bathroom and the damn thing was looking straight at me. I was horrified to see a grotesque female head with long hair and what looked like intestines, hovering near the ceiling light of the bathroom and the damn thing was looking straight at me. Needless to say I FREAKED, abandoned the cups, rushed to our beds and jumped in. I lied to my friend that the flask was not working and that we should just go to bed. She didn't reply so I assumed she had fallen asleep. I might also mention that back then, I was a really staunch Catholic and I wore a cross for years that was blessed by a priest and that night i clutched it the whole night trying my best to fall asleep under the covers and praying to God the "thing" wouldn't do anything to us. By some miracle, we made it thru till the morning. I didn't mention anything to my friend so as not to scare her but for some reason she was unnaturally silent and just told me to pack up and check out (even though check out was noon and it was barely 8am when we woke.) Whilst packing, I noticed the cross I wore was gone. I thought perhaps I might have accidentally pulled it off in my sleep so we shifted the beds around, pulling up all the beddings and carpet but it was just gone. We quickly left the room with our bags and informed the receptionist about my cross and to give me a call if they found it. Finally on the bus back to the airport, I asked my friend if she found anything strange about the room we stayed in and she said for the 4 nights we were there, even when her eyes were closed, she felt like someone was repeatedly "floating" past our beds every night but she didn't say anything since we couldn't change rooms anyway. P.S: Just did a google search and that hotel still exists, except the name has been changed over the years. The photo above shows the layout of the room. This is exactly how the room looked like except that the bathroom were real walls back then and not glass like in this pic, and the "pantry" area was covered with cabinetry and the mirrors wrapped around it
Confession by Alvin Yeo This was a famous story that made its round as an urban legend and many boys serving national service would have heard it, but we've finally found the person who was the one who first experienced it when he was serving in the Police Academy, intake 115. This is his confession. - Eugene Tay Late one night after a hard day of physical training (PT) exercises and drill training, I was damn shagged and knocked out early. Midway through my sleep I was awakened with someone gently nudging me. “Bro, can follow me go toilet?” In my sleepy stupor, and barely able to see, I said ok and climbed off the top bunk to follow my buddy to the toilet. He walked in front of me and I just followed, weary eyed and still half asleep - you know that sleepy state where everything is a blur and you can’t really focus or see properly. We were at Bravo Company (coy), which was the building just between the mass canteen and Alpha coy (or OCT barracks), in front of the basketball courts. Behind the coy, where we hung all our laundry, was a forest with a cluster of banana trees. The toilet is on a half level down, between first and second floor. I followed him and reached the toilet. He went into the cubicle stall to take a shit while I went to the urinal. I didn’t really have to pee, but since I was there, might as well. Now, I’ve always been a bit afraid when it came to camp toilets as I’ve read all the stories and listened to all the horror tales. So as far as possible, I avoid looking at the mirror and the ceilings, for fear that I might spot something in the reflection or looking down at me. I don’t have the special third eye, but who knows.. better to not see. “Damn shag leh today, the drills and PT was damn tiring”, my buddy said from the stall. “Ya, tomorrow morning will be worse. IPPT coming up so confirm will kena from FI”, I replied, still peeing. “Yeah, but luckily got lesson in the afternoon so can relax a bit”, my buddy added. He could only be heard since the door was closed. I finished peeing and went to wash my hands. “Eh, faster leh, I wanna sleep!”, I chased. "Wait la, stomachache”, he explained. So I waited, still trying my best to avoid looking at the mirror and the ceiling. My mind was filling fast with ‘what if’ scenarios, and I was getting a little paranoid at what I might “accidentally” see if I’m unluckily. “Quick leh”, I chased again. No reply. He must be concentrating. So, I went to the next stall and climbed on the toilet bowl to peep over the connecting wall. There was no one. Absolutely no one. I climbed back down and went back to the sinks. Trying to keep calm and not reveal that I KNOW no one was in the stall, I said, “eh, I go back first la, damn shag. I wanna sleep liao.” And begun to slowly make my way towards the door. ‘He’ replied. The voice still coming from inside the cubicle, “You sure you really tired and wanna go back? Or you know who I am now?” My skin crawled and goose bumps ran all over my body.... My skin crawled and goose bumps ran all over my body.... I quickly ran back to my bunk and saw that my buddy was still in the lower bunk, soundly asleep. I immediately shook him and woke him up. “Bro! Something just pretended to be you and asked me to follow it to the toilet!!!”, I exclaimed, scared out of my mind.
He was utterly confused and had the ‘what the fuck’ look on his face. I went to turn on all the lights, much to the annoyance of my squad mates who were awakened by the sudden brightness. I quickly recounted my experience to them. Many were shocked and the more religious among us started to pray - some reciting the Quran, some reciting the Lord’s Prayer, and others went to take their Buddhist or Taoist amulets for protection. I had my rosary in the locker, so i quickly wore it around my neck. After a while, when we thought things were safe, we turned the lights off and went back to sleep at around 5am. We had to be up in a while so we tried to get a bit more sleep, though I’m not sure how many actually did sleep on. The next day, we told our Field Instructor (FI) and Officer-in-Command (OC) what had happened and they arranged for the barracks to be blessed. We were allowed to book our early as it was a Friday, and all weekend OB duties (apart from guard duty) were cancelled. So yeah, the old police academy is definitely haunted. Confessions by Rahim Illustration by Syed Wilson This is one ghost story that has nobody in it. - Eugene Tay This story took place in Batu Pahat, Johor Bahru, Malaysia where I was staying with my parents and 3 sisters. There was a period of time where we were 'disturbed' everyday for almost a month. There were nights where we would experience strange noises in our house. The noises sounded like something scurrying around the house and even on our roof. There was this tik-taking sound like the sound of nails on zinc. At first we would dismiss it as noises made by our cats but as time goes by it got even worse. There was one occasion where I was very sure I heard the noise coming directly from my bedroom but when I went in to check, there was nothing! Apart from the noises there were also a foul stench that came out of no where. We thought that maybe an animal had died under the floorboards or in the attic, but despite searching the whole house, we could not find the source. And strangely enough, the stench was not always persistent; appearing and disappearing at different times of the day. My father decided to seek spiritual help from a bomoh to take a look at our house to find out what was the cause of these disturbances. My father decided to seek spiritual help from a bomoh to take a look at our house to find out what was the cause of these disturbances. I remembered it was a Friday night when the bomoh arrived. The moment he stepped into the house, he told us that there was something which is not of this world that had taken refuge in our house. We were shocked to hear what he had told us. The bomoh began his ritual of cleansing; he went to every corner and every room in our house. My father asked what was actually causing all the disturbances and the bomoh said that soon we will get to see its true form. The bomoh chanted prayers and to our surprise, we heard a scurrying sound coming from the kitchen towards the living room! What we saw was the most hideous thing and I will never ever forget it! It was a hideous looking head connected to a hand! Get this - i'm not making this up. It was literally a head that was on a hand! What we saw was the most heinous thing and I will never ever forget it!
Confessions by Zijun Huang We recently moved into the new BTO flats near Punggol settlement. I usually work late and one night as I was returning home from work, I took a wrong turn and ended up walking through Punggol Seventeenth Avenue, where the private estate is, and saw something that gave me goosebumps; even now as I'm recalling the story. The time was a little past midnight and before 1 am. I was walking past the Raffles Kidz Childcare Centre. Some of the street lamps were flickering and the road was a bit misty. Suddenly, I heard woman crying hysterically. The crying got louder and louder. I was the only one on the street at that time. Then I heard someone shouting in Japanese. I didn’t understand what he was screaming about but the voice sounded very fierce. I looked around thinking it’s the TV sound coming from one of the houses but there were no occupied houses there. That was when, from a far, I saw a woman in traditional cheongsam behind the gate of a very old house. That was when, from a far, I saw a woman in traditional cheongsam behind the gate of a very old house. I panicked and started running down the street, past the house, and towards the direction of the nearest main road. The crying sound only faded away after I ran quite a distance past the house. I was seriously very, very scared. It's the first time I've seen or heard anything like this. I prayed and chanted all the way home. I showered quickly and went straight to bed. The next few day I came down with a really bad case of fever. For nights after that, I would have recurring nightmares about the crying woman and the Japanese man. My mum brought me to a old temple in Punggol and with the help of the temple medium, my fever eventually subsided. When the medium learned where I had my supernatural encounter, he nodded and said, "no wonder". Then he shared his memories about the Punggol point area. During the Sook Ching Massacre at Punggol beach, the Japanese raped and murdered many villagers in that area. There were many mass graves around the place, many of them were never officially documented. One of the mass grave was on the site directly opposite the Childcare centre. He said if you ask anyone staying there, 9 out of 10 would have had experienced some degree of strange encounters there. There is a also a church nearby. The choice to build the church there was to keep the angry spirits at bay but clearly that had very little effect. According to the medium, he believes that is why many of the houses there are unsold as those who are 'pantang' or superstitious would avoid buying properties in that area. Although my fever have since subsided after my visit to the temple, the haunting nightmares never stopped. Each night when I try to sleep, I would see the image of the screaming lady in cheongsam behind the gate. Each night when I try to sleep, I would see the image of the screaming lady in cheongsam behind the gate. The temple medium told me the spirit needed my help because her soul was stuck in a tormented cycle. He asked me to return to the spot at Seventeenth Avenue to burn a particular set of incense paper for her. I hesitated for a while as I am extremely scared of going back there. It took me a couple of weeks before I finally got the courage to go back there again, accompanied by the medium and one of the temple helpers. The weather seemed find when we arrived but during the prayer ritual the cold wind suddenly picked up and it began to rain. A black cat walked over towards us and sat close by to watch us pray. Maybe it’s a coincidence but the temple medium said it was a sign. The entire ritual would take about half an hour and involved chanting and burning of Hell Money for the tormented soul of the crying lady, but the rain and the wind kept putting out the fire. We were forced to abandon the ritual when the rain got too heavy. The temple medium told me that this was a sign that the spirit or spirits in the area did not accept the offering. We waited for the rain to subside and left without completing the ritual. I really hope she can get out of this vicious cycle and reborn again in a better world. I really wish I can help her but it seems like there are stronger forces at work. Photos of site and offering submitted by confessor.
Confession retold by Eugene Tay This story was told to me in 2009 by a close family friend. This incident took place during the late 80s, early 90s era at Kaki Bukit estate, Singapore. Kaki Bukit had a new HDB development that was built upon old kampong grounds and cemetery for those who can recall it. Our house faced a hill which leads up to an old mosque. Currently you try to find that place on the map, it would show just a cluster of new HDB blocks. No more hill, no more mosque, and apparently no more news of a Nenek Kebayan roaming the area. I stayed there for 12 years before moving out to Seng Kang. I had 2 miscarriages in that house and the final incident is the most painful memory I had to bear. So to many people, my husband included, the legend of Nenek kebayan is a myth, but to me I believe that’s who was responsible for those deaths. I had 2 miscarriages in that house and the final incident is the most painful memory My husband was working in offshore marine line and I was a full time housewife. We were wedded for about three years and living with his parents in that time before getting a place of our own at Kaki Bukit. So naturally when the new home came we tried to start a family. It didn’t take long for me to get pregnant with our first child. My husband would work shift so that would mean there was about 2 weeks to a month, sometimes, he will be out at sea. My mother would come by to help out during those times. So what I’m about to tell you is not just the ramblings of a pregnant woman, my late mother, bless her soul, was able to corroborate my experience. I was in my third trimester, I remember. We were ready to welcome the arrival of my first born. That’s when I encountered this Nenek. Back in those days it was common for us to leave our doors open. All the neighbours pretty much knew each other and in the afternoons the Malay neighbours from downstairs would come to door to door to sell gorang pisang (fried banana fritters). We knew all the maciks (middle aged malay ladies) there so when the Nenek* appeared we were quite puzzled. *Nenek literally translates to "grandmother". A polite term to address an elderly malay woman. She wasn’t selling anything, she just wanted to come in to our home to congratulate us on the pregnancy. Although I remember feeling very uneasy at that time, I didn’t want to appear offensive so I let her in. She was quite unkempt and smelled stale like someone who had not had a shower in a while. She placed her hands on my belly and smiled. Talking to my unborn kid in Malay. I didn’t understand all the words but It really made me uncomfortable. My mom was asleep at that time. She usually takes her afternoon nap and would wake up around dinner time. This took place around 6pm, I recalled, because I was secretly hoping for my mom to get up soon so I have an excuse to disengage. She placed her hands on my belly and smiled. Talking to my unborn kid in Malay. Eventually, I made an excuse to go to the kitchen to make her a cup of coffee. She smiled at me, her teeth were in terrible condition. That’s what made her so memorable. She merely nodded at me and kept that grin plastered on her face as I went to the kitchen. From the kitchen I could see the main door. So if she had left my home, I would be able to notice her leaving; and she’s quite old and walked with a shuffle, so even more so it would be easy to spot her leaving. When I went back to the living room with the coffee she was no where to be seen. I checked the rooms, but no sign of her. I shrugged it off as probably something that I might have missed and was glad that she decided not to stay around. That night I woke up with a terrible cramp in my abdomen. The contractions were excruciating but I knew it was too early for delivery. I bled all over the bed; my mom called for an ambulance but by the time I was taken to the hospital for check, the baby was gone. By the time I was taken to the hospital for check, the baby was gone. I did not see the Nenek anymore and didn’t tell anyone about it either. My husband and I decided to try again the following year and again in the third trimester, the Nenek appeared at my door again. All the old memories came flooding back. This time I did not let her enter and I quickly closed the door on her. She was outside hurling insults and curses, demanding to be let in. I went to the room to wake my mother up. My mom went to the peephole to look at the Nenek and immediately told me to stay in the room and start praying. I’m not a very devout Catholic. I was introduced to the religion by my parents but besides going for the occasional Sunday mass, I was mostly Catholic by name. But that day I poured my heart into my prayers. My whole body was shaking in fear. I could sense whatever outside was evil. In my heart, I had always suspected the Nenek was behind my first miscarriage but now I’m sure. From the room I could hear her growling outside and cursing. Then there was a foul stench so strong it was like the the sewerage had burst or something. Very foul smell and it seem to come and go. Outside my door I could hear my own mother calling upon the Lord’s name. This went on for sometime and finally all was quiet. I continued staying in my room. My mother came in and comforted me. She didn’t want to elaborate much on it but many years later my mother revealed that through the peephole she was able to see the Nenek’s true form and it was hideous. She knew about such creatures from her growing up years in kampongs but that was the first time she has seen one up close. Through the peephole she was able to see the Nenek’s true form and it was hideous. I did not feel good the entire week; worried that I might bump into her if I went out so I just stayed home. The following week when my husband came back, we left home only for my regular Gyne check up. That’s when we found out that my baby’s heart had stopped beating. My husband does not believe in all these stories and attributed the miscarriages to me being stressed or purely biological. But to me, I’m going to my grave with the belief that it was that Nenek that took my both my children. When I had my third child, we stayed at my in-laws place and there was not trouble at all. We moved back after the baby was born despite me being hesitant to do so but living with the in-laws weren’t very convenient. In the first five years that we returned home, I would sometimes smell that same foul smell at night and hear nails scratching on my windows, but no outright knocking or appearance. We moved out of that house as soon as we could and thankfully till today I’m glad to say I had no other further encounters like that. The legend of Nenek Kebayan has been passed down from ancient times to the present in the Malay community, with the most recent sightings reported in Perak in 2019. She is described as a hunchbacked old woman walking with a stick. She is believed to be a human woman who had acquired her powers through occult practices or making bargains with spiritual entities such as Jinns or Orang Bunians.
A video of what looks like a hunchbacked creature walking with a stick fits the description of a Nenek Kebayan. Confession by Zulkhairi Jaffar This post is rather special to the confessor because it's the first or the earliest supernatural experience that he can remember. It is told from 2 perspectives - from Zulkhairi and his late mum's. ~ Eugene Tay On a certain afternoon in November 1983, my mother was tending to my newborn younger brother who was crying in the room. I was playing with my collection of toys in the living room. At the time, we stayed at Circuit Rd near Macpherson in a small, 2-room corridor flat with the old school window just like in the attached picture. That day, the door was closed but the metal louvres of the window were open so anyone passing by could look in. And that was exactly what happened. While I was so engrossed in playing I didn't realize someone was looking at me through the window. Only when I heard someone called out to me that I looked up and saw this old lady who was clad in dark clothes, her head covered in ta udung, as was typical of muslim women her age; we call them 'nenek' which means 'grandmother' in Malay. I remembered that she was dark skinned but nothing too jarring in terms of appearance otherwise. She asked me who was that crying inside. I replied it was my younger brother. She then said something about how she likes babies and asked if she can come in to see him. She then said something about how she likes babies and asked if she can come in to see him. I don't think I gave her any answer as I didn't know how to respond. She then asked me to call my mum. I went in the room and told my mum that there was this nenek outside wanting to talk to her. My mum put my crying brother down on the bed and went to the window to see what that old woman wanted while I resumed playing with my toys nearby. Being the kid that I was then, and distracted by toys, I didn't pay attention to their conversation. The only thing that sounded odd was that their conversation was getting more and more heated. Then all of a sudden, my mother let out a scream. Then all of a sudden, my mother let out a scream. She grabbed me by the hand, dragged me into the room where my brother was and slammed the door behind her. We stayed in the room for some time until my mother felt it was safe to take a peek outside. Seeing the nenek is no longer there, she carried my brother in her arm with one hand and dragged me away with the other. We sat at a nearby coffeeshop, where we were surrounded by people, and waited for my dad to come home from work. Now the next part was told to me many years later by my aunt (mum's younger sis) and then verified later on by my mum herself. What happened during the convo between my mum and the nenek according to my aunt was that the old woman insisted on coming in to look at the baby. She was so persistent that she wouldn't take no for an answer. My mum sensed something was not right with this 'person' so she got a bit terse. That brought something out from the old woman and she she started to reveal what she was. That brought something out from the old woman and she she started to reveal what she was. Her eyes got wider and wider and her mouth stretched into a sickening grin. Her voice lowered into a deep growl. Her face started to contort. That was when my mum realized is that this thing in front of her wasn't human. That 'thing' then reached out to grab my mum through the louvres and that's when she screamed. During that time, many other families have had run-ins or was visited by this being. It became quite a stir around different parts of community and across the land until it was featured in the news. I don't know what happened in the end but the stories simply seem to have died out. All I know was it didn't just end there for my family. We had to seek help for my mum and me due to certain health issues and other disturbances right after that incident. Well that was what went down for my first ever supernatural experience with my late mum. Thanks for reading. A similar case happened in Kaki Bukit area but that family wasn't so lucky. Confession by Beibei Lim I wonder if the second daughter is the soul of an aborted child. When someone is near their end of life, the begin to think back on all their past deeds. In some instances, confessors claim that they can see their deceased relatives. - Eugene Tay So this story happened, before my grandma passed away. She was bed ridden due to a bad fall. Back than I used to live with her in her flat at Tampines, and she would always tell me during the night if I hear or see anything I should just ignore. At this point my grandpa had already passed on, but at night we could hear chairs moving around/someone using the toilet. Each time we heard the sounds, my grandma would ask ask me to shush and ignore. At this point my grandpa had already passed on, but at night we could hear chairs moving around/someone using the toilet. Fast forward.
My grandma sustained a bad fall and was bedridden. I already moved back with my mother at this point of time but I would go back to visit my grandma daily. One day, when I was visiting her as usual, she told me she had a “visitor“. Out of curiosity I asked her who it was. The people that visited my grandma was just me and I did not bring anyone along so I was quite puzzled by this news. She said it was her “2nd daughter” that came to visit her BUTTTTT here's the thing - she has no second daughter at all! The 3 children that she have are my mom and her 2 brothers. My grandma described her visitor aka the 2n daughter as “ long hair , long nails , and weird smile “ this one is the most creepy shit. The saddest part of this story is that she passed away on the one day that I did not came over to visit her. Confessions by Muhammad Shazwan This one is a classic - Eugene Tay This was about 20 yrs ago when my late grandfather had an eye operation. He needed to be warded and my auntie who was a nurse coordinated his admission and he was put in an A ward. I volunteered to stay and watch over my grandfather as he recuperated from the surgery. I remember till today that I was awoken by one of the "nurses" coming into the room. I couldn't see clearly because I didn't have my glasses on. All I could see from afar that the nurse in white came into the room and stood by the door and after a few minutes she left. So fast forward the next day, my auntie came to the ward and check on my grandfather. I casually asked her if the night before there was a malay female nurse because she was wearing a white tudung apart from her normal nurse uniform My auntie was startled but she told me she will check with the nurses at the counter. She returned and said maybe I was trying to be funny because nurses in Singapore don't wear tudung over their uniform and the night before all the nurses on duty were non-malay. I kept my mouth shut because who did I see then because I clearly remember the nurse wore a white tudung and uniform. I didnt look after my grandfather on the 2nd night. No thank you. Ghost 1, Grandpa 0 - Eugene Tay
Confession by Damah Mikah It's always very refreshing to hear first hand paranormal encounters retold by reformed skeptics. I've spent some time in Brunei myself and I am of the belief that the place is haunted. - Eugene Tay I didn't believe in supernatural beings until I was sent to Brunei in 2011 for my NS posting. I guess, seeing is believing. Incident 1: It was my first guard duty there, and I was doing sentry duty at about 1.30 in the morning. I was alone in the sentry post when I heard someone gave a sigh. I thought it was one of the regulars or my seniors who had sneaked up on me as part of the hazing ritual. I freaked out and came out of my sentry post, only to find no one within a 50m radius. Incident 2: This happened on the same night as Incident 1. I was on desk duty at 3am. Feeling bored, I stepped out of the Pass Office to have a chat with the sentry. In the middle of our conversation, we heard a loud bang. We turned our heads in the direction of where the sound came from, only to see this huge black figure walking casually on the pavement about 150m away from us, and disappeared into a wall. We wanted to give chase or check where it had disappeared to, but we had to stay in our posts (and perhaps that was a good thing). When I returned home a year later, I shared my experience with my father, and according to him, going with my description of it looking like Bigfoot (Black-figure whose height was about a 1-storey building and walks like a human being), he believes what my friend and I had seen must be a Genderuwo. Until this day, I am still puzzled on why it stepped on the drain cover which caused the loud bang.
Incident 3 (this is a long one): I have heard stories of possession cases when the guys get together to drink inside the bunk, but I never thought I would get to witness one myself. It was one of those nights when the guys were in the mood to drink. As bunk IC, I wasn't supposed to let them, but I also didn't want to make enemies (imagine sleeping in fear of being the target of a blanket party). I wasn't into drinking, and so I stayed in my bed and read a book. Suddenly, the bunk doors burst open, and I saw 4 guys restraining and dragging one guy to the toilet as he was thrashing around. When I asked what was going on, one of the guys who were drinking told me that the one being dragged to the toilet got possessed. According to him, the possessed guy got quiet all of a sudden and started growling during the drinking session, only to jump up from his seat and headbutted the fridge numerous times. He was running amok in the mess, kicking the bottles, and furniture while shouting, "Who are you?" in Malay. Some of them who had been there longer knew what was going on, and that was when they decided to wash him up. The guy who got possessed was not known for his strength (getting a pass for his IPPT was already a tremendous feat for him), but on that night, I witnessed 6 guys struggled to pin him down. He was causing a commotion, and I was afraid that the regulars would wake up, which would then lead to further questioning for me. Feeling desperate, I called up one of the sergeants for help since he was well-versed with Islamic prayers. I used to tease him for being "boring" as there were a lot of things that he didn't do with us due to his conviction with the faith. I never knew I would need his help very badly, and I looked at him in a different light ever since. With the guys pinning the possessed guy down, I gave those on the floor a hose down while the sergeant read out his prayers. The guy who got possessed gradually stopped thrashing about as he got disoriented. But I can never forget the piercing stare he gave me during the hose down. Those who got possessed before and during this incident were the Muslim guys. I wonder if this has something to do doing haram (Arabic for 'forbidden') things like drinking alcohol. Incident 4: It was during my rest time at 3.30am, and my next shift was at 5 in the morning. I couldn't sleep, and so I decided to head to the camp's canteen alone for the WIFI to download a few videos and check my messages on FB with my iPod Touch. I was in the middle of searching for the videos when the water dispenser started bubbling. It was a short one at first, and so I ignored it. But the second one lasted about 4 seconds, as if someone was pouring a drink even though I was the only one at the canteen. While this was happening, one of the chairs started to move by itself. I made a dash back to the guardroom immediately, despite having a sprained ankle. My friend who was on sentry duty, was surprised to see me back in the guardroom as he didn't see me coming from the rearview mirror of the sentry post, but only heard my frantic footsteps getting louder and nearer. We used the rearview mirror to spot vehicles/people approaching from the back of the sentry post. There were a few stories shared by my fellow campmates about how a pocong stood at the camp's front gates and kept on banging its head on the gates to how a goblin-like creature disturbs the camp prowlers by popping its head from behind the walls peekaboo style, but the ones I shared above are my own personal encounters. We can never get enough of Army Paranormal stories. If you have never ever seen a ghost in life, the best way to do it is by joining the army. - Eugene Tay Confession by Azhr Amn Sometimes the worst fear come from our own imagination. After the first incident, Azhr became acutely more aware of his surroundings, "sleeping with one eye open" as he calls it. In his head, he is always wondering if there's something lurking somewhere in his room. - Eugene Tay I used to stay with my sister and her husband before I got married. My brother-in-law is police officer and my sister was a housewife. This was around 2005. We were staying at Bedok North St. 3. My sis knew my habits well. When my room door is closed, that means I am inside the room. If the door is opened, it means I am out for work or somewhere. Back then I was working as a restaurant manager in one of the popular F&B joint in Tampines Mall. So, every month end we have to stay late till 2-3am to do stocks/inventory checks. My sis is aware of this too. One night, my sis reached home close to midnight after an evening with her friends. She was at home alone as my brother-in-law was doing his night shift. When she was going into her room, she saw my room door closed. She then asked, "Have you had dinner yet?" and apparently I answered "Yes". She then went into her room to change and shower. After her shower, she went into the living room to watch TV. She remembered that soon after it started drizzling. While watching tv, she was startled when the phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and answered, "Hello" On the other end of the line was a very familiar voice saying: "Kak, as per normal today month end so I will be back quite late, ok". That person was me. On the other end of the line was a very familiar voice saying: "Kak, as per normal today month end so I will be back quite late, ok". I reached home at about 2+ am and saw a few familiar faces under the void deck. They were my sis, my brother-in- law and his partner. My sis related her experience to me. At first I was quite scared actually to go back to my room, but as they say, the more scared you are, the more the entities will haunt you. We went up and said some prayers before entering the house. I then walked to my room, said another prayer before opening the door. All was ok, my room was just like how it was before I left for work. At this point, I was a bit doubtful about what my sis had heard. There was probably some rational explanation. Besides, I was too tired and, since nothing strange was happening, I felt it was safe to sleep in my room that night. Thankfully, the night passed without any disturbances. All was ok for the next few days until... My first incident happened when I was home alone. My sis and her husband were on a short trip to Malaysia. I was about to fall asleep when I heard 3 knocks on my room door. I tried to ignore the knocks and forced myself to sleep but I simply couldn't sleep. My mind was racing and imagining things. Fortunately that were the only strange things that happened, but I tell you - it was enough to scare the sh*t out of me and made me stay up all night. There's just something about those three knocks that sounds very sinister. It sounded like it came directly from my door and not from outside. The next three nights until my sister and brother-in-law came back, I forced some friends to come over and stay with me. On the fourth night, I was awakened at about 2am, by the sound of knocking again, this time at my window. I was awakened at about 2am, by the sound of knocking again, this time at my window. Again, it was 3 knocks. As my room was facing the common corridor, I thought someone must have just been fooling around. Not wanting to take chances, I prayed out loud and went to bed. After this incident, there was no more knocking and no other paranormal occurrence for the next few years until it was a month before we were moving out of the house for a new owner who bought over. The last incident took place just after midnight, I was lying down on my bed watching TV when suddenly, on my left side I felt as if something sat beside me. I literally felt my mattress moved down as if someone sat on it. I kept quiet, tried to say some prayers but couldn't. I just lie on my bed thinking of the verses but my mind was blank with fear. All this time, I can feel that depression of the mattress on the left. I then slowly got up, opened my door and slept in the living room. I told my sis and brother-in-law about those few incidents which I encountered, and they decided to do some prayers before we hand over the keys of the house to the new owner. Despite all those incidents, I am thankful that whatever "they" are, ."they" did not show me how they look like. You know, like how they did in horror movies lurking at the corner of my room or crawling under my bed and etc. Not all hantu stories have a proper climatic finish to the tale, that's because most paranormal encounters rarely take place like you see in the movies. This story makes you wonder about the grey areas between certainty and self doubt - Eugene Tay
