Confessed by Suhao, Host of 00:01 Translated and edited by Eugene Tay Ghosts are distinguished by different colors. Some people see them as white and some say that they are green and red. What do these colours mean and is there a difference? According to Suhao, host of 00:01, a Chinese language streaming show on paranormal topics, the colors represent the ghost's resentment index and the mental state of the ghost. It can be divided into six tiers.: Sixth place: Grey Ghosts
These are the ghosts who line up to reincarnate, and they are the most commonly seen. Chance of meeting: The Grey ghosts don't want to see you. If you meet one, it's purely coincidence and these spirits are actually quite harmless. They are wandering around waiting for their time. Fifth place: White These are the new souls, formed by people who have just died. They are generally not harmful and are more confused about their new state of being. Chance of meeting: If you are down on your luck or happen to be in an area where a death had just taken place. This spirit is not likely to disturb you. Fourth place: Yellow The cause of death of the deceased is related financial issues. For example, people who commit suicide due to bankruptcy or money woes are likely to come back as yellow spirits upon death. Chance of meeting: People who are troubled by money or material life problems would likely see these ghosts. They are mostly restless and can affect your mood. Third place: Black Black ghosts are usually made by people who have died due to sickness or depression. The exude a depressive aura and are blamed for causing accidents. Some believe that these spirits cannot reincarnate and are trying to find unfortunate victims to take over their place. Chance of meeting: People with illnesses or feeling depressed have a higher chance of seeing black spirits. Second place: Red It is said that people who died tragically without justice or by taking their own lives due to emotional problems will become vengeful spirits. In Asia, there's a common misconception that committing suicide while dressed in red or burying the deceased in red will definitely bring the spirit of the soul of the dead back as a vengeful spirit. The colour of the burial outfit is less relevant than the intensity of the grievance. Chance of meeting: People who are facing relationship problems, feeling emotionally unstable, or just experiencing a spate of bad luck. First place: Green The green ghost is an occasional feature in Asian ghost stories. They are usually depicted by a spirit that can absorb the living's energy, take over their body, and are not anchored to a single place. These spirits can haunt you even in the day and have the ability to move objects. Chance of meeting: People who have done many bad things, those that have harmed others, will be particularly susceptible to meeting such ghosts. It's easier to take over someone who has already very low self control. Confessed by Velu My friend and I went for fishing at the changi costal area near Changi Village. There were some other anglers nearby a few meters away from us. Luck was on our side that night and we managed to have very good catch. Every time we cast, within few minutes we would feel the pull. The other anglers looked at us and gave us a thumbs up sign. Later in the night, a macik (an elderly malay lady) in a black tudung came up to us asking for a fish. She looked really old and terribly hunched. It struck us as strange that an old lady would come to these parts of the island this late in the night. It's a spot that's frequented by lovers and anglers, certainly not common to find old folks loitering around at this timing. Thinking to ourselves that maybe she's homeless, we didn't read too much into the incident, and gave her a couple of our catch. Part of me also remembered the things that my grandparents used to say of their experiences back in the kampong days. Do not deny anyone food when they come up to you, especially when it happens at night. My grandmother believed that spirits can come in the form of human to test us. Those who are generous will be rewarded. The selfish ones will suffer a loss. I don't know how true this folklore is lah, but since we caught all these fish for free, no harm sharing right? After she left, someone from the other group came over to tell us that it's best we left the place, immediately. But since we were really on form fishing today, we didn't really feel like leaving. Also part of us suspects that they were jealous of us. So we continued while the other group packed up and left in a hurry. This time our catch was even faster than the previous time. The same macik appeared again. So we gave her another fish and she left. That's when my friend grabbed me by the arm and pointed to the macik, "Bro! Look! Macik got no leg!" I turned to look and to my horror, I couldn't see her feet from under her. No doubt she was wearing a traditional long malay outfit that reached to her ankles, but even then usually you can at least see the feet walking but this one really can't see anything. It's like she was just gliding. We immediately packed up and ran to our lorry. We put all the barang barang (our fishing items and styrofoam boxes) in the back and got into the front. We heard and felt someone climbing up the back of the lorry. I looked through the rear view mirror but couldn't see anyone. It was just the dark empty carpark illuminated by orange street lamps. I checked the the side mirror and to my horror -swear I almost pee'd my pants- I saw that macik again. I started the engine and sped off. I didn't care at that point to double check if the macik was real or ghost. I just drove off and kept checking the rear view mirror; a part of me imagining that she will appear beside me again. Thankfully I didn't see her and after I drove off a few kilometres I began to feel somewhat calmer.
I remember, my friend and I even joked about how we thought we just saw a ghost. That's when my friend who was laughing suddenly turned serious and screamed. I turned to my right and saw that a few meters away there was a head, with no body, flying along side the lorry. I floored the accelerator out of Changi and headed towards the more modern neighbourhood where its brighter and crowded with people. That 10 minutes drive along the dark road was probably the most scared I had ever been in life. That was the closest encounter I ever had to the supernatural. I haven't fished again since then. I've been in touch with the supernatural world since young as my dad's a taoist priest and both maternal & paternal side of the family has someone meddling in taoist arts in every generation. I guess this was what slowly inched me towards the spiritual path to become a spiritual practitioner but instead of being a taoist practitioner, I have a background in Tarot, Reiki and the Akashic Records. I've got soooooo many stories (both personal and from friends) but decided to share this particular story with you today. I went to Phuket 3 year back with my best friend and we stayed in a hotel by the beach. While we were planning the trip, we made a mental note to bring protective items with us as we've heard that Phuket is very "dirty", especially after the Tsunami. We were super excited for the trip but something felt really off for me when we reached the hotel. I decided not to tell my friend as its just Day 1. The bell boy helped us with the luggage to the room and before we could tell him that we'd help ourselves into the room, he already opened the door and moved the luggage in. My friend looked at me and she was like, "How ah, we didn't knock and say anything" but it was too late so we simply muttered some apologies under our breath and told whatever entities out there that we're just there for a few days. Our room was beautiful, the pool was right outside the balcony and we had an open toilet. We unpacked and our crystal bracelets were on the bedside table, my amulet is right beside me and we left some crystals in the luggage after we heard that a friend "dabao-ed" a hantu in her luggage when she came back from Bangkok. I can safely say that we were very well protected everywhere apart from the toilet and the doorway. Everything went on fine until about 6pm in the evening and we returned to the room for a short nap before heading to the night market to get dinner. I was falling asleep when I saw an entity in the ceiling, watching us but as it didn't feel malevolent, I ignored and fell asleep. I only told my friend about it when we left the room for the night market but did mention that it didn't feel malevolent, more like curious on who came in. We dabao-ed dinner back and everything was fine until we prepared for bed. My friend was sleeping at the side near the toilet and I was on the side with the sofa and sliding doors to the balcony. The light from the toilet was shining on her face when she lay in bed so we decided to lower the blinds to 1/3 of the window. This is an important detail for a later in my story. So we showered and was watching TV when we heard the sound of the kettle boiling. Our pantry area was directly opposite the door to the toilet and right beside the entrance to the room, which is where the sound was coming from....except we didn't boil anything. I was tired and wanted to sleep so I walked over, decided to play with the kettle and said, "I'm going to sleep already don't disturb me. I paid for the room so I'm not going anywhere". From the corner of my eye, I saw something sneak back into the toilet. We didn't get proper sleep at night. The both of us would sleep, thinking that we've slept for hours and wake up to see that an hour or two has passed. We will feel super awake too. My friend wasn't sensitive, but I am, and she could feel that there was something wrong. I just didn't tell her that there was a crowd watching us as we slept, but they were unable to get near us. We had a different crowd every night, watching us from the protective perimeter we set up, as though we were animals in the zoo. Nothing much happened until Day 4, which was the night before we return to Singapore. We were preparing to head out in the afternoon when I noticed the blinds we lowered on Day 1, is now more than half way down the glass window suddenly. Without thinking, I asked my friend if she lowered it and I saw her face go white while she shook her head. I decided that enough was enough, we are already disturbed in our sleep and I felt really annoyed from the insufficient sleep. I went in to the toilet and pulled the blinds all the way up. I was very sure that the blinds didn't fall or lower itself because you need force to adjust it. I told her we're going out and when we return I want the room to be totally empty. We came back at night with our dinner, packed and went to sleep. When we woke up, we almost missed breakfast! We slept through the night (finally) with no disturbance, nobody watching us sleep and it was fantastic. Before we left we did thank them for making the last night in Phuket peaceful for us. That's the end of my confession and I hope you've enjoyed reading! Confessed by Geraldine Laetitia
The following encounter happened in the old Kampung along Lim Chu Kang Road. It is better known today for the abandon HDB Neo Tiew Estates. I used to go into the villages there when I was young as my mother's hometown is the Nan Hoe Village. This village will include where Neo Tiew stands today. I used to go there till my secondary school days and stay overnight there on the odd occasions like Chinese New Year and Family weddings where I was part of the wedding entourage. The roads in the village are all lined with tall grass, trees, banana trees, vegetation, and fish farms. As we all know, houses in the kampung are all situation far from each other, typically with farmlands, banana trees or simply forest in between them. My grandmother, my first uncle and 2nd uncle and a few older cousins all have houses in the village. Evening time as the sun set to the horizon is normally the most beautiful time. The last ray of sun turns the land into a hue of orange glow, with birds chirping away and the night crickets comes out to play. Hence it is no surprise that my cousin and I love to play outside the house as the sun set behind us. One evening, as usual that is what we did. Suddenly, my cousin saw the daughter of one of the neighbour standing far away among the field. Since she hardly see her neighbours, she was extremely elated to see her friend. So she ran towards the girl while shouting her name!.... Just as she was reaching the girl, she suddenly stop. In front of her are just rows of banana trees... Where was the neighbour she saw? She was stunned and immediately turn around and ran back towards the house. Since then, she will never dare step out of the house the moment the sun begins to set. When I visit the village, I will usually stay at my 2nd uncle's house. The road from my 2nd uncle house to my 1st uncle house will take you pass the spot where my cousin had saw her neighbour. One evening, my eldest cousin (1st uncle's daughter) was holding her little brother and walking back towards her house, returning home at the end of the day. Not long after she set off, as she look towards the direction of her house, she saw a lady standing not far away. She thought it was her mother. She dragged her younger brother and ran very fast towards the lady, shouting "Mummy! Mummy!" When she reached the lady, she dived and buried herself into the lady's chest...... and she immediately let out a very loud shriek the moment she dived towards the lady. At the very moment, then she realize there is no mummy. Right in front of her is just a banana tree that she is hugging. She was so shocked and terrific, she burst into tears immediately. Her younger brother was just as terrific. Both of them end up in tears and ran. They cried as they ran as fast as possible back to their house and the other side of the field. Accordingly to the old folks, banana trees usually turn into the impression of a person at dusk, just right before the sun set fully. Not sure if it is really true, but what happened in the kampung will always stay in our memories. My cousin Zubaidah came to stay over my place one night. My room has a double deck bed with my sister Maria taking the top bunk, and I sleep on the lower bunk.
Zubaidah and I shared the bed when she came over that night. We went to bed around eleven something at night. Maria had already fallen asleep before me. I thought I saw long black hair coming down the side from the bunk bed above against the side of the wall. I nudged Zubaidah awake and pointed at the hair. She asked me to look up the bed where Maria sleep, whether is her hair or not. So i looked up and saw Maria sleeping left hand side, away from the wall. So it wasn’t her hair. I told Zubaidah it must be her Barbie doll’s hair. So we ignored it and slept. When morning came, Zubaidah went up Maria’s bed to see whether it was Maria’s barbie or not. The strange thing was that the barbie doll at blonde hair and it isn't that long. So what was it that we saw last night which was black and long? Strange! Could it be the doll changed its hair colour only a night?? Or.. maybe it's the ghost hair? Well actually, Maria should turn over her barbie’s face down in the bed when she goes to sleep Any dolls or soft toys with eyes should turn their face over when someone wanna sleep with it. If not.. the evil will get inside them and disturb you. This is true! If you do not believe, try it yourself… Confession by Angie, written by Eugene Tay
This is a story told to me by someone who used to work at the Institute of Mental Health. She wasn't born with the third eye but it was opened for her. She was still a very young nurse when she first started working there and for one of the wards, it was a well known section where the patients are actually mentally sound. Their caregivers put them in there because there's just something odd about their behaviour that isn't accepted by society. One of this patient was an elderly man. Well spoken. No violent tendencies. The more senior nurses told her to just go in, do what she need to do and leave. Don't look him in the eye, don't talk to him, just go. This made her even more curious. She went in to check on him but decided to take a peek from the corner of her eye. She saw him smiling at her. Not in a creepy way. More in a kindly fashion to say, "thank you." She thought it would be impolite to ignore him so she turned to return his smile. It was just be a smile and she would be off, she told herself. What kind of person would just ignore someone and walk away. She couldn't do that. "Nurse Angie, thank you," he said. She nodded at him and left. After she left, she realised that it was her first week on the job and she didn't have her name tag, and she didn't not introduce herself to him, so how could he have known? The next day she checked in on him again, she felt more at ease. All that warnings that the senior nurses had told her, she reckoned, it must be just to scare her as a new staff. It's probably one of the harmless ragging that they do around here. He was sitting up and reading, when she got in. He smiled at her again. She smiled back. Meeting his eyes this time. "It's a noble career," he said, "you shouldn't doubt yourself." She looked at him confused. "You took up nursing because you felt like you couldn't take care of your grandmother, but now that you did, you are beginning to doubt your decision. Don't." This time she was really curious. It was like this man could read into her mind. So she approached him and they got to talking. She learned from the conversation that they had that the man, Uncle Jimmy, could tell people's future just by looking at them. While you may think that that is a gift, it is not something he can turn off. He also told her that her grandmother was still around. Angie broke down crying at that point. She's been very close to her grandmother and was guilty about not being able to take care of her in the last few years of her life when she was battling cancer. The man asked if she would like to see her grandmother and Angie replied yes without hesitation. Jimmy asked Angie to come closer to him and close her eyes. She don't know what he did, but she felt a sensation like someone blowing into her face. She still had her eyes closed when she heard her senior nurse coming in and telling Jimmy to behave himself as she pulled Angie out. Angie for her part got reprimanded for not listening to her seniors. When she retold her story to them, the nurses looked at each other, unsurprised. They all admitted that they have no idea how Jimmy know about each of their lives intimately like he was with them the whole time or in their minds, but that really freaked everyone out. That night Angie couldn't sleep. Her room was fully air-conditioned but she tossed and turned, feeling her whole body was hot. At first it came as a whisper; it was familiar. Then she closed her eyes and focused on the voice and in her mind's eye she was able to see her grandmother in her room. She could see her grandmother's mouth moving but she couldn't hear anything. When Angie tried to get closer to the the vision, the ghost of grandmother just faded away. That was the first incident, and since then, she was able to hear voices and if she concentrates hard enough she thinks that she can actually see these spirits. Angie was posted out about about a year later and she hasn't seen or heard about Jimmy since. The new nurses working them have no idea who he is either. It's almost like he's been erased from the records. A new case just came into our mailbox early this morning. A family living in Yishun claims that their house is haunted. They moved in about a week ago and have been experiencing strange phenomena. First sign was their cat; she would hiss at empty corners and dash under the coach, refusing to come out. At first the family thought it must be the stress of relocating to a new place. But then the wife also started reporting that when she’s alone at home, she sometimes could see a black figure from her peripheral vision standing at a distance. She tried to ignore that feeling but the ominous presence seems to only be coming closer and closer each time. The husband was in the living room watching television one night when he thought he heard someone calling his name. Thinking that it was his wife, he answered her and asked what she wanted. The voice told him to go to the kitchen and look out the window which he did. For reasons that he cannot explain, he was moving in a daze as if he was functioning on autopilot. He registered a black figure standing by the window and that at that moment he was curious to lean outside the window to get a closer look at the ground below. Thankfully the kitchen grill was locked and as he was looking for the keys the thought just dissipated. He went straight to the bedroom to look for his wife and found her sleeping. This incident spooked him but he chose not to confront her in the night. Image is a placeholder to depict what a Singapore HDB kitchen looks like and not the actual shot of the location. When he woke in the morning, the night’s event felt like a dream to him. He don’t remember turning off the TV before going to bed but when he woke, he found the TV turned off and his wife in the kitchen making breakfast. He checked with her about the previous night’s event and she denied calling for him. The TV was also already turned off when she got up. He shelved away the incident as just a bad dream.
Sensing something was wrong, his wife pressed him for details. The urgency of her actions and the worried expressions startled the husband. When he revealed what he thought he experienced, she began to break down. She didn’t know how to tell the husband of her experiences before for fear that he would find her claims ridiculous, but now upon hearing that her husband had also seen something similar, it validates that what she saw might be real after all. They spoke to their teenage daughter as well but apparently she have not had any unexplainable encounters so far. According to her father, the daughter was genuinely curious why the father had called the family for an urgent meeting. The family has invited the SC team down to investigate in the hopes that we are able to debunk any paranormal presence in the house and set their mind at ease. I'd like to share a true story that happened when I was a teenager. My older sister, Sandra was 21 at that time. Like most young adults her age, she loved clubbing and did not heed the advice of our superstitious Cantonese parents to not stay out past sunset during the 7th month and not to wear black or red clothing.
One night while walking home rather drunk, Sandra had accidentally stepped on some food offerings on the pavement. Not one who believed in Chinese superstitions, she didn't think too much of it and continued on her way. That would mark the start of the nearly year-long ordeal which followed. My sister started to have really bad stomach cramps a few days later, which wouldn't go away. She suffered through the night unable to sleep. Over the course of the next few weeks, not only did he cramps continue, her stomach started to grow bigger, as if she was pregnant. My parents threw a fit and even accused her of getting knocked up by some boy though my sister maintained her innocence. My mum made an appointment with the women's clinic near our home and ultra sound scans revealed that her womb was empty! She was then sent to a gastro specialist for several tests which all came back negative. Her stomach continued to grow bigger in the coming months which triggered senseless rumours amongst the gossiping aunties in the neighbourhood. My parents were at their wits end and soon my sister could not even step out of the house and spent all of her time cooped up at home, in fear of being ridiculed. Sandra was withdrawn, depressed and became merely a shadow of her former self. Nearly 10 months later, my dad's aunt visited from Malaysia, after hearing about Sandra's plight. Sandra's condition had not improved and her stomach was huge as though she was carrying twins. Even if she truly had gotten knocked up, the baby should've been born by then. Upon seeing my sister, Aunty Fong told my family about a similar case that had happened to a girl in the kampong in Paloh and urged my parents to take my sister to get spiritual help. My parents along with Aunty Fong took Sandra to a Taoist medium who was a friend of Aunty Fong's. I was not allowed to go and only know the series of events through my parents. The medium had gone into a trance and whatever had taken over him said that my sister had stepped on some food offerings meant for a deceased young man during the last Hungry Ghost Festival. Instead of apologising, my sister had laughed it off in her drunken stupor. It was only then that Sandra finally admitted to what she had done. The medium went on to say that the spirit of the young man had followed her home and had taken a liking to my sister. It had sexual intercourse with her while she was asleep and "impregnated" her with a ghost child. It was going to come take her and his child away during the next Hungry Ghost Festival when the gates of Hell opened again. My sister was very lucky to have been brought to the medium just 2 months shy of the lunar 7th month. After several rituals which were performed by the medium, one which involved going to the Lim Chu Kang cemetery, my sister was cured. Her swollen stomach went down over the next two weeks. She was back to her old self. Sandra is now happily married and has relocated to Australia with her loving husband and adorable baby boy. I urge everyone to be respectful to the taboos associated with the Hungry Ghost Festival to avoid repercussions like what my sister had suffered."
